Core Body Temperature for Fertility Tracking
This short note describes the use of Core Body Temperature sensor for Fertility Tracking.
About the use of Core Body Temperature for Fertility Tracking
What is Core Body Temperature?
Core body temperature is one of the four primary vital signs of our body. Core body temperature refers to the temperature of the body’s organs.
It fluctuates following physiological processes, such as circadian cycles, menstruation, illness or physical activity.
Therefore, it can allow to gain more insight about the internal or external parameters affecting those natural mechanisms. Many devices on the market attempt to estimate core body temperature via skin surface temperature. Due to the complexity of thermal regulation and environmental conditions, this estimate does not come close to the accuracy and reliability of greenTEG’s Core Body Temperature Sensor.
How Core Body Temperature Sensor can be used for Fertility Tracking?
For decades, body temperature have been employed to estimate women’s fertility window.
More specifically, a body temperature called the Basal Body Temperature (BBT) has been defined as the lowest natural, non-pathologic body temperature after a period of rest. [1]
This temperature have been employed by women to determine ovulation over the full duration of the menstrual periodic cycle.
This method has been used either as a way to maximize the pregnancy chances or on the contrary, or as an attempt to avoid fertilization as a contraceptive.

In the process of charting body temperature, ovulation has been characterized by an increase of 0.5 to 1°F in your natural and non-pathologic lowest core body temperature, briefly after ovulation has occurred.
Consequently, this detection requires an accurate and reliable body temperature measurement and a comfortable and continuous measurement process.
